Embracing Every Stage of Life
Under Medicare, you are entitled to receive an annual wellness visit at no cost. This visit will help you take control of your health care. It provides a snapshot of your current health as a baseline for future yearly visits and is intended as a preventive service to catch potentially serious health issues early.

Cost
It’s free. Medicare pays the entire cost if:
- You have had Medicare Part B coverage for more than 12 months and have not had a Medicare initial preventative physical examination or an Annual Wellness Visit within the last 365 days.
If your provider identifies and needs to address a new or existing issue during your visit, that is considered diagnostic care. Medicare may charge you for any diagnostic services received during a preventive visit.
Annual Wellness Vs. Yearly Physical
An annual physical exam is much more extensive and may also include a check of your lungs, head and neck, abdomen, neurological function, skin, and extremities. Certain clinical laboratory tests are included in the Annual Wellness Visit.
Other Health Concerns
Annual Wellness Visits are used for preventive care and health maintenance. If you have an injury or think your blood pressure might be too high, you need to schedule another appointment.
