Bio

Katie Starns, APRN, CNP, joined the Ear, Nose & Throat medicine staff in November 2023. A certified Family Nurse Practitioner, she specializes in Otolaryngology/ENT and also practices at Advanced Specialty Associates ENT & Facial Plastics in Baxter and Mendota Heights, Minn. Starns graduated, with honors, from North Dakota State University (NDSU) in Fargo, North Dakota, with her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She returned to NDSU after working several years as a registered nurse and graduated, with honors, with her Doctorate in Advanced Practice Nursing. She has been working in Otolaryngology/ENT since 2011.

Starns evaluates, diagnoses, and treats patients of all ages with ear, nose, and throat-related concerns and disorders.  She especially enjoys treating and managing chronic ear infections of all varieties, hearing loss, chronic rhinitis and allergies, chronic sinusitis and polyps, nasal obstruction, rhinogenic headache, chronic tonsillitis, swallowing disorders, and vocal disorders among others.

The nurse practitioner lives in the Brainerd Lakes Area with her family and their dog.  She is most proud of her role as “Mom” to her two children.  When she isn’t busy in the clinic–you will find her attending all their music, theater, and sporting activities; volunteering regularly in their schools, and helping with confirmation classes.  She values service within our community and is active with several organizations and committees–Forestview Middle School Parent Group (Treasurer), Brainerd Public Schools District Advisory Committee, and Brainerd Service League.  She enjoys reading, skiing, hiking, traveling, and spending time with her family on her family’s farm.
