About This Provider:

Dr. Fawn Atchison (M.D., Ph.D.) is a board-certified and cardiac fellowship-trained physician anesthesiologist who provides surgical anesthesia, critical care consultation, and acute pain management at Cuyuna Regional Medical center.  She also sees patients in the consult clinic in the Department of Perioperative Medicine. In addition to clinical services, Dr. Atchison is the Medical Director of Education who oversees the Continuing Medical Education (CME) program at CRMC and is responsible for clinical education for physicians and allied health staff.  She is also the current Chief-of-Staff Elect 2015-2017. Dr. Atchison is the CRMC site preceptor faculty for the Rural Anesthesiology Resident Rotation for anesthesia residents from Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education in Rochester, MN.

Dr. Atchison is a Summa Cum Laude undergraduate student from the University of Minnesota Duluth. She earned her combined M.D. and Ph.D. degrees via the prestigious NIH-sponsored Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. Dr. Atchison then completed a preliminary medicine internship and Anesthesiology Residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where she was also elected by her faculty and peers as Chief Resident in Anesthesiology 2008-2009.  Following residency training, Dr. Atchison completed a Fellowship in Cardiovascular Anesthesiology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester and specializes in Advanced Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography.

Dr. Atchison has produced many peer-reviewed scientific publications and received awards for presentations at national and regional conferences.  She is interested in cardiovascular physiology, echocardiography, ultrasound-guided procedures, and innovation in medical technology.  Dr. Atchison is certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and the National Board of Echocardiography.  She is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the International Anesthesia Research Society, the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists, and the Minnesota Society of Anesthesiologists.
